When the temps start soaring this summer, cool off with some delicious (and refreshing!) sushi at one of these five LA spots.
If you’re craving sushi, sunshine, and a little R&R, we suggest booking a stay at The Resort at Pelican Hill, which grants you exclusive access to the property’s charming restaurant, Piccolo. Order edamame, vegetarian spring rolls, fried rice, or yellow fin tuna tartare to start before indulging in an endless stream of rainbow rolls, spicy tuna rolls, Hamachi, and eel. 22701 S. Pelican Hill Road, Newport Coast, 888-507-6427
We can’t talk about sushi without giving Koi a mention. Find respite from the scorching sun at the sushi bar or out on the leafy front patio and treat yourself to a sushi lineup that never disappoints. Think signature dishes like the “She’s So LA” roll made with soft shell crab and spicy tuna or the dragon roll that wraps up shrimp tempura with eel and baked crab. If you really want to cool down, go with something cold and raw like tuna, yellowtail, or salmon sashimi. 730 N. La Cienega Blvd., Los Angeles, 310-659-9449
For a quintessentially LA summer dining experience, head to Hotel Bel-Air to enjoy sushi at the Wolfgang Puck restaurant on property. Sit outside in the dreamy garden, which makes for plenty of Instagramming opportunities, and order up some Hamachi sashimi made with bosc pear ponzu, avocado, lotus crisp, and wasabi oil. 701 Stone Canyon Road, Los Angeles, 310-909-1644
Wherever you are in LA, chances are you’re near a Katsuya. With four locations in the city — Brentwood, Hollywood, Downtown, and Glendale — they make it easy to get your summer sushi fix. Start off with the crispy Brussels sprouts (you can thank us later) and crispy rice with spicy tuna before moving on to yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño. Or, go all out with the sashimi sampler boasting a mix of the chef’s best tuna, halibut, salmon, and more. Then wash it all down with a watermelon cucumber drink or a Vitamin A fruit refresher made with acai berry and pineapple. 6300 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles, 323-515-8782
Hands down the chicest (and most Instagram-worthy) place to get your sushi on this summer will be at Sora at the new InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown. Sora is perched on the 69th floor of the 73-story building, which is touted as the tallest building west of Chicago. The luxe restaurant with intimate and romantic detailing makes for a great date night spot in the city. Expect to find made-to-order and fresh-cut sushi from fish flown in daily from Spain and Japan as well as an ample selection of Japanese whiskey to pair it with. 900 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, 213-688-7777
