New Girl star Zooey Deschanel added designer to her resume with the debut of To Tommy, From Zooey—a whimsical, retro-style capsule collection for Tommy Hilfiger inspired by her quirky fashion sense. The line, which Deschanel describes as “mod-ical,” comprises 16 flirty dresses and accessories in Tommy’s signature reds, whites, and blues with nautical accents.
A-list celebrities gathered Wednesday night at The London West Hollywood to fête the launch of the collection—many outfitted in Tommy Hilfiger, of course. Here’s what five stars had to say about To Tommy, From Zooey. Available now on macys.com and tommy.com; available in select Macy’s and Tommy Hilfiger stores April 14.
On designing the collection: “[My inspiration] was a lot of ‘60s and ‘70s fashion, so there are a lot of A-line shift dresses. I really loved working with Tommy and his team. It was sort of like being a kid in a candy store with all the wonderful fabrics and buttons. It was so exciting.”
On the perfect Tommy girl: “The real perfect Tommy girl is my wife, Dee. She is the Tommy girl. I mean come on, look.”
On what makes a Tommy girl: “I think [Tommy] loves the all-American woman and [Zooey’s] extremely vivacious and she brings that into her fashion. She’s always smiling. I think she’s the perfect person to work with him.”
Eva Amurri Martino
On Zooey’s signature style: “I think she really knows herself and she doesn’t try to go with every trend, which I really appreciate about her. She has her own sense of style and that’s cool.”
On what he loves about Tommy Hilfiger: “I like the colors and I like the designs. It’s got a vibrancy to it that I think is really good.”
