Still can’t get enough of the Oscars glamour? With spring officially here, recreate the most sophisticated looks spotted on Tinseltown’s most stunning actresses with these easy tricks from makeup artists.
Emma Stone rocked an old Hollywood look with a heavy dose of drama. Patrick Ta, a celebrity makeup artist who has worked with Gigi Hadid, Shay Mitchell, and the Kardashian sisters, says a blank, clean canvas is essential prior to applying makeup. “Before I do a client for a big red carpet event, I always tell them that [they need] a solid skincare routine that’s really hydrating in the days leading up to the event,” he says. “So when you put foundation on, it just melts in, rather than just laying on your face.”
Get the look by dusting a gold shadow all over the eyelids. Use a bronze shadow on the upper and lower lash lines to define. “It’s all in the tones on her face that make it work,” says celebrity makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes. “It has a vintage quality to it, burnished with colors with depth that work well together. It’s all very luxe.”
“This makeup is a monochromatic dream,” says Hughes. Start with a reddish tone shadow on the outer edge of the eye and contour by blending with a plum color around the lash line. Finish the eye with plenty of coats of mascara. “Add a hint of blush to the apples of the cheek. Don’t layer too many things, keep it simple, and only use powder where you need it,” says Hughes.
“Use a high shine, full bodied lip color,” says Giorgio Armani Beauty Face Designer Tim Quinn. “Exfoliate the lips first. I love Fresh Sugar Scrub. Then apply lip balm and define the lip with a pencil that matches your chosen shade.” Balance the look with a subdued blush with a rose gold tone. Finish the look with “lots of lash and a string brow,” says Quinn.
“Janelle’s look is super smoky and sultry,” says makeup artist Ashlee Glazer. Swath champagne shimmer tone across the eyelids and add dimension with a cranberry shadow in the crease. “This shade is flattering on all skin tones,” says Glazer. “Keep the skin tone neutral with highlights and contours in golden tones, and a nude lip will balance out the dramatic eye.”
To get Jessica’s chic red cat eye, begin with creating a winged eye and stretch it out toward the end of your brow. Work back in toward the inner corner. Keep the rest of the look minimal, with a soft peachy lip. “Use concealer on trouble areas, just where you need it, and blend,” says Hughes. “By keeping the skin light and fresh, it will feel very modern and cool.”
Copy Biel’s flawless skin by drinking tons of water in the days leading up to the event. “I always make my actors do a layered mask before makeup,” says celebrity facialist Joanna Vargas. “I follow with a hyaluronic gel serum to make sure the skin isn’t too slick for makeup.”
“For Chrissy’s look, start with a luminescent mask to help brighten the skin,” says Quinn. Apply for ten minutes then massage into the skin. “When going for a neutral lip, look for a tone that mimics your natural lip color. Keep it simple.”
“I would use neutrals and rusty bronze shades to get Naomie’s eye look,” says Glazer. Apply a cranberry shadow and dust with an amber shimmer to highlight. Well-groomed brows are key to this look. “Balance the look with flawless skin and a clean hairstyle,” says Glazer. “I love how her lip and cheek are all in the same color family.”
