Halloween is officially over, and holidays are already on our minds. At-home entertaining is synonymous with the season—but it doesn’t have to be stressful or overcomplicated. We turned to three LA-based boldfacers to get their expert advice on what to serve, what to wear, and how to plan.
When the hostess is relaxed, so is the time spent with guests. I rarely wear shoes when entertaining at home and always dress in something comfortable—black pants and a shell or a long dress.
2. Plan As Much in Advance as Possible
I enjoy prepping everything as much as possible before guests arrive, so that once they are here I can spend more time with friends and less of it stressed in the kitchen.

3. Offer Plant-Based Options to Satisfy Everyone
I love having plant-based options when I entertain. I will do a nice piece of meat braised, roasted, or grilled and serve it alongside interestingly prepared veggies, as well as grain and legume side dishes that are both elegant and delicious. When you present these simply prepared dishes around the meat, you can satisfy everyone from the carnivore to the vegan without exhausting yourself as the cook and hostess.
4. Serve an Artful Cheese Plate
A cheese plate is all about beauty and ceremony. It's such a quick, easy way to entertain. Luckily there are people out there doing some interesting raw vegan cheeses now—including Moon Juice. Oftentimes, I will serve a soft herb and sprouted nut-based cheese alongside a traditional triple creme with sprouted, organic crackers, artfully arranged together on a wooden cutting board. Everyone can happily partake.

5. Don’t Forget the Details
Make sure the guest bathroom has a beautiful candle ready to be lit and towels and soap in place.
6. Ask For Help
Try to get some help in place. If it’s a hired hand for cleaning or a friend that will be helping, getting that organized can help things go smoothly.
