Heidi Merrick dives into the deep blue with her latest line of oh-so-green home décor.
This season, haute womens-wear designer-turned-chic recycler Heidi Merrick, 40, expands her exclusive home collection to include fashionable made-to-order surfboard covers. As part of her Re-purposed line of home goods, the custom covers are made from unused remnants of her clothing and swim-wear fabrics (all of which are designed and manufactured at her Downtown LA studio). “It’s not just that I’m a super-frugal fashion designer. I feel good about saying this is re-purposed and everyone should do something like this—it’s the right thing to do,” says Merrick. A Silver Lake resident, Merrick regularly surfs on the weekends at her hometown of Carpinteria. “I grew up in the ocean and I feel like it really makes you aware of our effect on the world,” she says about living a sustainable lifestyle, which inspired her exclusive eco-friendly home collection. “If fabric is left over and lying there, I’m going to do something with it because it’s my nature.”
