Sitting pretty: E-commerce style supernova Bri Schulz brings Euro chic to SoCal’s ladies who shop.
A few years ago, Laurel Canyon transplant Sabrina “Bri” Schulz, 36, noticed the overwhelming saturation of sameness in luxury fashion: “You could go only one place to buy a Goyard bag,” she says. “Now you can find it in seven.” So the former Barneys New York exec took things into her own hands. To stock her twoyear- old e-commerce shop, Bri Holloway, Schulz combs Paris Market Week biannually for deluxe designers whose original styles feature a special twist. Think structural handbags carved of sustainable wood (Scotland’s Rocio) and sophisticated leather leggings with lace-up grommets (Denmark’s Utzon).
How’s LA’s fashion sense? “LA is giving New York a run for its money; women really think through what they’re wearing. I wish the men would put more thought into it. At Nobu I’m like, ‘You’re wearing that?’ It’s perplexing.”
The look for fall? “You’re going to see more pantsuits, due to this last election: men’s tailoring in a modern, more sexy way. Pink and red continue to be dominant. I’m loving capes, and I’m jazzed about houndstooth.”
The latest “It” designer? “I recently discovered Peter Petrov, an Austrian designer. His tailoring is unbelievable. He’s going to blow up.”
What’s next for Bri Holloway? “Clients are interested in how items can be curated together, so I’m creating a series of webisodes, tutorials, and stories called ‘Style Scout with Bri Holloway,’ looking at how to put a sophisticated twist on macro trends. For example, how do you wear red without looking like a streetwalker? It’s a fine line to walk. It might look great on the runway, but you don’t want to look ridiculous when you show up at Tower Bar for dinner.” briholloway.com
