"BookATailor is different from any other tailor because we provide an experience," says founder and CEO Jacomo Hakim. That experience involves custom-made high-end suits designed entirely by the client with the help of "styling geniuses," using an array of colors and styles at their disposal. "The customer only needs to come to the showroom one time to get measured," says Hakim. "And, after that, he can order online, design it online, [and] order it knowing that it will come out the perfect fit, [just] the way he wants it."
With showrooms in Beverly Hills, New York, Atlanta, and Charlotte, and additional ones slated to open across the country, BookATailor provides a timely service that doesn't sacrifice quality. Requests are filled within two to three weeks (standard industry time: four weeks).
Hakim, a former DJ, discusses the origin of the company with a mix of pride and longing. "It was a lot of fun," he says about working in the music industry. "But it got to a point where I realized that I had reached a plateau where I would not be able to grow much more [beyond] what I had gotten to. I realized at that point that I [had] to start something new." With the help of his computer programmer father, Hakim was able to build an in-house program to easily manage all data entry, from a client's measurements to his order history. "This opportunity was presented to me, and I decided to test it out," he explains. "And here I am today."
With fall fashion in full swing, the CEO also shared on the company's most popular styles. "Most people come in to get simple stuff," he says. "The most popular suit today is a two-button notch-lapel suit." Slanted pockets, a company trademark, are trending, too. As for venturing into women's fashion, Hakim seems a bit reluctant for the time being, but "we're constantly thinking of new things to do." 9701 Wilshire Blvd, 10th Fl., Beverly Hills, 310-596-4693
