A purchase of this magnitude is like buying a high-priced timepiece or a work of art, but much more personal, because only the wearer can fully experience and enjoy it. The Vanquish II suit is a project born out of a partnership between Italian luxury house Brioni and fabric company Dormeuil. The result is a luxurious material that blends the world’s softest fibers: pashmina, qiviuk, and vicuña.
Qiviuk comes from a rare musk ox found in the Arctic. The animal is so scarce its coat cannot be shorn—the precious fibers can only be gathered from what the animal naturally sheds. Vicuña comes from an alpacalike animal that produces small amounts of extremely fine wool and can only be shorn every three years.
Brioni’s master tailors have the exclusive right to produce Vanquish II garments, and there is only enough fabric to create up to 150 pieces worldwide. Customers can choose to have a suit or tuxedo made to measure. There are 14 fabric swatches to choose from, with some featuring pinstripes in yellow-gold, white-gold, or platinum thread.
The Vanquish II is not about showing off, because to the untrained eye these hand-constructed garments can look like a suit crafted from a lessexpensive fabric. When you come in contact with the material, however, there is no question you’ve reached the pinnacle of sartorial refinement. Ingenuity of this caliber creates a second skin that is best appreciated on a personal level.
