If there's anyone who knows how to transform a look, it’s hair guru Frédéric Fekkai, known for styling many a famous head of hair—from Heidi Klum’s to Sharon Stone’s. And so it was with great anticipation that his revamped and expanded Melrose Place salon reopened last month as his West Coast flagship, combining his two LA locations and ending his run on Rodeo Drive after 15 years. “In addition to catering to our existing clientele, we hope to expand a client base that doesn’t identify with Beverly Hills,” says Fekkai of the consolidation.
Ensconced in a Spanish-style Mission building, the airy, three-story 2,400-square-foot space on Melrose features an expanded salon service area, more shampoo stations and private pedicure rooms, as well as a ground-floor retail store. Patrons can also enjoy a light lunch and manicures and pedicures on a quaint, banquette-lined outdoor terrace. “It’s the perfect combination of my aesthetic—French contemporary with the charm and unmistakable distinction of Melrose Place,” says Fekkai.
So are there any beauty trends in particular we should be anticipating? “Night-out hair is starting to go a little more retro: think Mad Men,” says Fekkai. “It’s setting your hair and having a specific look, whether it’s up or down.” Move over, Betty Draper; we’ll be making that appointment right now. Open Monday, 9 AM to 6 PM, and Tuesday through Saturday, 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM. 8457 Melrose Pl., Los Angeles, 323-655-7800; fekkai.com
