Estée Lauder: Runway Beauty Trend
by anne-marie guarnieri
There was a collective gasp followed by serious swooning backstage at Derek Lam’s Spring 2011 show. The cause: the bright-orange eye look Estée Lauder’s creative makeup director Tom Pecheux created for the occasion. Pecheux got his results using a mix of lipstick and lip liner—a look clearly not meant to be replicated at home, but everyone demanded to know how it was done.
Thus inspired, Pecheux set about turning a flash of creative genius into a new collection: Pure Color Orange Crush, out next month. “This is the first time Estée Lauder is creating products from the runway show,” says Pecheux, pronouncing orange “the strongest color for spring and summer.” The three-piece limited-edition collection, containing two eye shadows (Orange Crush and the shimmery white Sugar Cube) and a lip gloss (also called Orange Crush), is packaged in sleek navy rather than the traditional gold. “If you’re looking for something unique, come to me,” says Pecheux. “I will make it for you.”
