Perhaps starring in NBC’s new epic drama series The Event alongside TV veterans Blair Underwood, Laura Innes and Jason Ritter would be scary for most young actresses, but for Sarah Roemer, it’s just one more challenge she embraces. “I’m someone who likes to do adventurous things like skydiving and then check it off the list,” says Roemer. “I’ve taken a helicopter ride over Dubai and climbed to the top of Masada in Israel. I feel very blessed I’ve been able to do stuff like that.”

The San Diego native began modeling at age 15, venturing to New York City on her own two years later before eventually landing in Los Angeles. She gained notoriety after costarring in Disturbiaalongside Shia LaBeouf and in Hachi: A Dog’s Tale with Richard Gere. Making her television debut in The Event has been an easy transition for Roemer, thanks to a welcoming cast. “Jason Ritter is one of the funniest guys,” says Roemer of her on-screen love. “I can’t imagine him ever being in a bad mood.” But really, she says, “I learn from everybody I work with. It’s a great group of people.”

The 26-year-old may have snagged a role on the highly buzzed about new show, but she remains down to earth. “I’m very family oriented. I go out of my way to try to see my family every weekend [in San Diego] and get out of LA and the Hollywood world when I’m not working.” In fact, she recently bought land in the mountains near her hometown. “I’d like to build a ranch,” says Roemer. “Eventually I’d like to get some horses, chickens and goats out there.”

How refreshingly un-Hollywood.
