Open Season!
And so it begins: the long-distance, awards-season marathon, launching with the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards September 18, pacing through the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, Grammys, BAFTAs, Spirit Awards and eventually crossing the finish line February 26 with the 84th annual Academy Awards. Each year, September sets off a flurry of nonstop activity for those who support the industry—from the powerhouse studios, Hollywood starlets and leading men to the managers, publicists, designers, journalists and travel partners— putting LA firmly in the global eye for the next several months.
This season, in a refreshing move indicating change is in the air, The Academy announced the fabulous Dawn Hudson as its new CEO. With a sisterhoodpower sentiment and my deepest respect, I offer Dawn my hearty congratulations!
Whether a spectator or participant in the awards-season grandeur, there’s no denying the positive economic impact Hollywood honoring its stars has on our fair city. The race to achieve red-carpet-ready bodies is filled with a gob-smacking array of preparations, from workouts with famed fitness gurus such as David Kirsch to strict detox diet plans of soup, green tea and sashimi. On the beauty front, nominees stand in line for oxygen facials with Sonya Dakar and snap up red fox-fur eyelashes, selftanners, lengthy hair extensions, double Spanx, outrageous clothes and over-the-top jewels—all paired with the perfect camera-ready smiles. Awards season: I love you, man!
Cheers,
