Everyone's A Winner
Once again it’s the time of year when we roll out the red carpet and celebrate extraordinary small-screen performances with the Emmys. But here at Los Angeles Confidential, it is our goal to recognize accomplished Angelenos all the time. With each issue we salute LA’s most influential movers and shakers in our Power Players pages, and this month we have selected a phenomenal group to highlight. From boutique owner and fashion forerunner Kathy Rose to Sandy Climan—who is on the cutting edge of 3-D video technology—these are some of the remarkable citizens we’re proud to share a city with.
Also be sure to check out Quincy Jones’ piece on his charity, The Quincy Jones Foundation, which helps children in need. The legendary Jones is one of the many celebrities who has graciously taken the time to write for us about the cause dearest to his heart. Please take a moment to find out how you can help, too.
And, of course, how could we forget the Emmys? We chose to honor the actors who we felt deserved a special nod—trophy or no trophy—for making us laugh, cry and love right along with them for the last year. Writer Scott Huver sums up the incredibly talented performances of an esteemed group of Emmy nominees that includes Terry O’Quinn (Lost), Ty Burrell (Modern Family) and Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife).
Here’s to a great fall.

Giving Birth to an Issue
Putting out an issue of a magazine sometimes feels as if you’re giving birth to a child. As the editor you talk about the issue—your new “baby”— for months before it is a reality. You prepare for it, plan for it and watch as it grows from nothing more than an idea—a few thoughts on a page—through its awkward stages as the kinks get worked out, until it is fully formed: a beautiful, new, perfect issue you’re proud to introduce to the world.
This September’s Emmy and fall-fashion issue feels even more like a labor of love than usual. Perhaps because September is such a highly anticipated issue for all magazines, the place we get to introduce the reader to the latest in fashion and what to expect this season. Our fall-fashion feature in particular is something I am extraordinarily proud of. Every detail was of paramount importance—from scouting for the site and finally choosing the luscious grounds of Westlake Village Inn to choosing the spectacularly beautiful model Ivey Mansel to looking at the incredible fashions chosen by our stylist Leila Baboi. And finally you have the end result: the glorious photographs taken by the very talented Ashley Barrett, who ultimately created the fantastical story we are telling. I think the outcome of all the hard work is breathtaking, and I hope you agree. I’m still daydreaming about the dresses, boots, vests and every other accessory and piece of clothing from the shoot and can’t wait to shop for similar looks in my favorite LA boutiques this fall.
I hope you enjoy this issue as much as we enjoyed seeing it from its infant stages to this gorgeous grown-up version of itself. Now, on to the next!
Happy fall,

SARI ANNE TUSCHMAN
