The Gift of a Gift

Somehow we are already at November with the holiday season in plain sight; how do the months pass by so quickly? It’s time to start planning for all the events, travel and, of course, gift-giving this season inevitably brings. In this issue we bring you our u?berfabulous gift guide, using Oscar-winning movies as the inspiration for finding some of the best presents for everyone from The Queen to the Million Dollar Baby in your life. Putting the guide together gave me food for thought: Perhaps the gifts we ask for offer some foresight into our year ahead.

With that in mind, I began examining a couple of the things I’m hoping to receive this season as well as what I want from the upcoming year.

At the top of my list is a surfboard, thanks to the newfound passion for surfing 2010 brought me. I’m hoping 2011 includes plenty of time in the ocean and hopefully even a few trips to surf in new, unexplored waters.

Another item on my list this year is a digital camera (I’m embarrassed to admit I don’t own one). With the incredibly fast pace of all of our lives, our heads constantly buried in our BlackBerrys or iPhones, as the days and even months fly by, we forget to—as cliché as it might sound—“stop and smell the roses.” I want to make sure I stop to look up more in 2011, to appreciate each second I’m surrounded by my incredible friends and family. The hope is that a camera will help me actually capture some of those fleeting moments. After all, before I know it, we’ll be working on our gift guide for 2011.
