Is there a gadget you can’t live without?
I just got an iPad—it has already changed the way I read.

A mixture of my first men’s fragrance, Pour Lui, and a little bit of sandalwood.

I love merengue, and Julio Iglesias is fantastic. He is also a good friend.

What inspires you when you are designing?
Making a woman look her best

Being surrounded by family and friends

Is there someone you consider your muse?
The professional woman

How would you describe your personal style?
I have been dressing the same way since I was a young man—my suits are made by a tailor in Madrid.
 

Where is your favorite spot in LA to dine?
Lucques

Where is your favorite place to shop in LA?
There are really great antique shops near my boutique on Melrose Place.

If someone gave you $10,000, how would you spend it?
Helping a child

What book is on your nightstand?
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest, by Stieg Larsson

Where is your ideal vacation destination?
My home in the Dominican Republic, where I was born.

What’s your favorite LA neighborhood and why?
West Hollywood. My store is there, and I love how former residences have been turned into shops. Our boutique has a working fireplace and two fountains.

What are your fondest LA memories?
Dinners with good friends
