FROM LEFT: Lisa Vanderpump Todd; The décor at Villa Blanca gives it a European flair
Restaurateurs Lisa Vanderpump Todd and her husband, Ken Todd, opened the Mediterranean-inspired Villa Blanca (9601 Brighton Way, Beverly Hills, 310-859-7600; villablancarestaurant.com) in Beverly Hills this spring, and it’s already popular with the A-list. With more than 20 clubs in London, the Todds are no strangers to success in the service industry. Having personally seen both their home in Beverly Park and their other LA restaurant, Sur, I can attest to Vanderpump Todd’s sexy, romantic and flawless taste. But then again, what else would we expect from a former Baywatch babe?
IRENA MEDAVOY: How does a Baywatch beauty start designing and owning gorgeous restaurants?
LISA VANDERPUMP TODD: I grew up at drama school, acting from the age of nine. When I reached my 30s, I gave it up before it gave me up! I reinvented myself and went on to design many bars, restaurants and clubs in London with my husband. I’m passionate about creating different styles and love the challenge of new projects.
IM: Your taste encompasses a lot of European influences. How are your travels and experiences abroad reflected in your designs?
LVT: England and France have certainly influenced my style. I think I have eclectic taste and always enjoy buying things on my travels. I say when it comes to style, mix it up! It makes things more exciting.
IM: Describe the dining experience at Villa Blanca.
LVT: It’s like being transported somewhere in Europe. I wanted a venue that could convey a European feel with the indoor/outdoor vibe that is so often found there. Our corner location was perfect. It’s absolutely essential that lighting, flowers, music and food come together in harmony to create a unique dining experience, and I think we accomplished that.
