Ballerina, Pussycat Doll, concert-tour dancer, singer, mother, wife to Jane’s Addiction and Porno For Pyros icon Perry Farrell: Is it any wonder E! Entertainment Television asked Etty Farrell to add “reality star” to the mix?
“We’d like for people to get to know us as human beings,” says Etty of the Farrells’ decision to join three fellow rock couples—legendary guitarist Steve Stevens and his wife, Josie; Susan Holmes McKagan and former Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan; and AJ Celi and The Cult’s Billy Duffy—for Married to Rock, which premiered on E! last month. “I’m sometimes brushed aside as ‘Mrs. Farrell,’ but I’m also a human being with my own personality I want the world to see, other than just being on the arm of Perry.”
Though accustomed to an often-public life, Etty needed to adjust to (and self-censor for) the cameras as they followed the rock wives while they bonded—and battled. “I’m an only child, so I don’t understand this group dynamic!” she laughs. “We bicker sometimes, but for the most part we do love each other dearly. It was fun to see how the other rock couples live and gauge your lifestyle against other people’s. On a scale of one to 10, I think Perry and I are probably a seven. No, a five—on the glamorous side.”
And how will her hubby handle it if fans are suddenly bypassing him to get a snapshot with Etty? “It’ll be fun—and funny—to see how Perry is going to deal with that,” she says. “I think he’ll be very proud of me, but I think it’s going to be a shock!”
