How do the stars get picture-perfect skin? Some of Hollywood’s most glamorous faces have Dr. John Shieh on speed dial for just that. We did our own checkup with the doctor, who specializes in noninvasive cosmetic and antiaging medicine, to hear about today’s most cutting-edge treatments.

LOS ANGELES CONFIDENTIAL: With the Oscars upon us, what are some of the current trends that can help put our best face forward on the red carpet?
DR. JOHN SHIEH:
The trend now is skin rejuvenation that looks more natural. People don’t want to have the frozen look caused by using too much Botox. With the new technologies available, skin can be rejuvenated, firmed and tightened, wrinkles can be reversed and blemishes reduced.

LAC: Can you give us an example of what skin treatments a 30-year-old might need as opposed to a 50-year-old?
JS:
We approach the individual’s treatment needs from three dimensions, which we refer to as the Triniti Skin Series. These are: blemish removal or color correction, skin tightening and firming and wrinkle reduction. A 30-year-old client usually needs some help with blemishes at least, and blemish treatments have the added benefit of shrinking pores and reducing fine lines. A 50-yearold client will probably need the complete Triniti Skin Series protocol, which clears blemishes and spider veins, tightens skin and reverses wrinkles.

LAC: What procedure would you suggest for someone who is looking for fast results because of minimal downtime?
JS:
The new Sublative Rejuvenation skin treatment. It uses radiofrequency electrical energy to fractionally resurface the skin with minimal epidermal disruption but with optimal collagen remodeling. The treatment can be customized for minimal downtime—as short as 24 to 36 hours—leaving one looking fabulous in no time.
