We love these seven ultra-healthy juice places.
Beverly Hills Juice
This tiny, family-owned business has been in operation since 1975. Stop in and have something whipped up on the spot or grab a freshly pressed, bottled juice to go. The überpopular Banana Manna Shake is a vegan alternative to an ice cream-based shake made with bananas, either almonds or sunflower seeds, and your choice of juice. Since the shop only uses organic, local, and seasonal produce, the menu tends to change. Try to catch the apple, pumpkin, cinnamon, and coconut blend before it disappears. 8382 Beverly Blvd., LA, 323-655-8300; beverlyhillsjuice.com
BluePrintCleanse
This NY-based juicing company has delivered nutritional juice cleanses directly to doorsteps since 2007, but with its recent expansion west, would-be cleansers can now pick up at Fred Segal Salon, Exhale Santa Monica, and Pilates Platinum Brentwood. Cleanses are broken down into three levels—Renovation, Foundation, and Excavation. If you’re not yet ready to be fully liquefied, try the Juice ’Til Dinner option, which combines juice with raw foods such as carrot-ginger soup, spicy raw chili, and pesto zucchini. 866-744-6831; blueprintcleanse.com
Earthbar
Aside from a few stand-alone stores, Earthbar can be found inside most Equinox health clubs in Southern California and offers pressed juices (bottled daily) in addition to an extensive menu. The Gimmie Green, made with kale, green apple, lemon, and cucumber, keeps customers coming back, as does the wellness shot made with lemon, ginger, oregano oil, aged liquid garlic, and cayenne. It takes some time for the taste of the shot to grow on you, but it’s much easier to swallow than a trip to the doctor. 8365 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood, 323-301-4980, among other LA locations
Kreation Organic
Last September, the owners of Kreation Organic broke down a wall and tacked on a juice bar offering cleanses, smoothies, and, of course, juices—all made with natural, local, and sustainable ingredients. The most popular is the Trinity Twist with carrots, beets, apple, lemon, and ginger. Besides a shaded outdoor patio, the juice bar draws locals for the shots the owners claim can cure whatever ails you—from a cold to PMS—and for the cleanses that can be totally customized for your body. 1023 Montana Ave., #B, Santa Monica, 310-458-4880
Liquid Juice Bar
After Mari Holden Saltenpour developed a love of juicing at home, she opened this outpost almost a year ago, offering amazing combinations of fresh produce that range from Detox Poweraid (which tastes great and helps the body get rid of toxins faster) to Mr. Resister (which helps shorten a case of the sniffles). The bar carries a plethora of supplements, has a highly knowledgeable staff willing to make substitutions, and offers one-, three-, and five-day cleanses. 8180 Melrose Ave., LA, 323-300-8070; liquidjuicebar.com
Planet Raw
Who knew the first-ever raw restaurant opened in Santa Monica? Owner and creator Juliano Brotman is a connoisseur of raw living, and instead of juicing, he believes in using blended whole food. The house special is the chocolate shake sweetened with local raw honey. Sample a vitamin-packed shake at lunch and a wine elixir at dinner, and watch for a new Hollywood location opening soon. 609 Broadway St., Santa Monica, 310-587-1552; planetraw.com
Pressed Juicery
Not only does Pressed Juicery have three freestanding stores (in Malibu, Brentwood, and WeHo), it also delivers juice packages and cleanses to your door nationwide. Take an online quiz to see which cleanse is right for you. Gift kits are a unique way to send get-well wishes, congratulations, or to drop a hint that perhaps a detox is in order. Pressed Juicery also nourishes the soul by donating a portion of its profits to charity. 8714 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood, 310-477-7171, among other LA locations
