Sunglass Trends to Follow

Bestbuysunglasses.com shows us how to land the perfect pair of shades.

January 25, 2011

Eyal Gutentag, co-founder of bestbuysunglasses.com, gives us the scoop on the sunglass shapes, sizes and brands that can perfectly frame your face.

Who are some of your favorite sunglass designers right now?
EYAL GUTENTAG: Ray-Ban, Persol, Prada, Nike, Gucci and Marc by Marc Jacobs. I tend to go for classic silhouettes with a bit of a twist.

What should a shopper consider when buying a new pair of sunglasses?
Personal style, nose shape, face shape, sunglass shape, color and use—recreational activities or fashion. There is a sunglass for every face.

What are the must-have styles right now?
The Ray-Ban Aviators and Wayfarers are extremely popular. Large, blacked-out frames, like the YSL 6326S, also seem to be trending strong now. And the oversize, Jackie O glasses will never go out of style.

What sets bestbuysunglasses.com apart?
We have a staff of trained optical experts and a user-friendly lens wizard to help customers order prescription eyeglasses or sunglasses. Our vast selection and the attractive pricing is also a huge draw.

If a customer is after just one great pair of sunglasses, what would you suggest?
The Ray-Ban 3025 is a classic aviator look, which comes in three sizes and many colors—they’re also unisex. So if you only get one, classic all the way, right?

And what about a statement pair?
For men, the Persol 2720S—the former James Bond model—is a classy choice. For women, the Christian Dior Bonvoyage 0BG4 is a strong statement-making pair with a great retro vibe.

Tom Ford does it again

December 22, 2010

This is Tom Ford’s world—we all just live in it. On the heels of his super-secret fashion show—where he officially debuted his first womenswear collection on the likes of Julianne Moore, Beyoncé and Lauren Hutton—Ford expands his beauty offerings for holiday with the limited-edition Tom Ford Black Orchid Collection ($140). The three-piece set contains a revamped version of his Black Orchid lip color in a sleek black-and-gold case, Black Orchid pressed perfume in a chic compact and, most exciting, the debut of the highly covetable Black Orchid nail color. Amid great fanfare at the Town Center at Boca Raton mall, Ulysse Nardin opened its first US boutique on December 16. Rolf Schnyder, the brand’s founder and owner, flew in from Switzerland for the event. Local politicians, entrepreneurs, watch collectors and celebrities attended the festivities, including baseball legend Randy Johnson. (Johnson, a friend of the brand, mingled with the crowd of more than 400 people and discussed his own watch collection.)

Bobby Yampolsky of East Coast Jewelry will operate the boutique, which is the 14th Ulysse Nardin store in the world and features typical Ulysse Nardin décor: dark wood furnishings, nautical styling and a blue-and-gold compass-inspired chandelier. “The idea is to bolster brand identity and give customers a good selection of Ulysse Nardin products,” says Patrik Hoffmann, head of the brand in the US and vice president of sales and marketing worldwide.

The opening party delivered a Champagne reception, top-shelf vodka and caviar and a charity auction to benefit the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation. It also showcased a display of more than 80 select Ulysse Nardin watches: Jaquemarts, the Moonstruck astronomical watch and a grand selection of Freaks including the Diavolo, which celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2011. A gold Freak Anniversary watch ($140,000) was on hand along with three from the Limited Edition Boutique line and a host of the newest Ladies’ Caprice models.

World AIDS Day Gets Pushed Along

Gwen Stefani and Bugaboo team up to help

December 02, 2010

Music and style-icon Gwen Stefani (PICTURED ABOVE) teamed up with stroller design company Bugaboo to create a one-of-a-kind stroller in honor of December 1's World AIDS Day. The specially designed stroller—the Chameleon model sporting a floral print and splashes of Stefani’s signature L.A.M.B. collection logo—will be auctioned off on eBay through December 5, with 100 percent of the funds going to the Global Fund. Global Fund has worked for years to spread awareness and prevention tools across the world to treat HIV/AIDS along with other life threatening diseases that run rampant in third world countries.  With Stefani’s help, Global Fund is using this auction to reach the goal of eliminating mother-to-child HIV transmission by 2015. Only one person will win Stefani’s personal creation, but 1 percent of sales from all Bugaboo products will also be donated to the fight against AIDS in Africa.
