Mad Men Twist on Classic Manhattan Cocktail
LA mixologist Damian Windsor stirs up Mad Men-inspired Manhattan.
April 13, 2012
In honor of Mad Men’s recent return, LA mixologist Damian Windsor partnered with light-bodied bourbon, Basil Hayden's, to create a cocktail called Draper's Manhattan.
Inspired by the show’s leading man, Don Draper, the drink is a twist on the classic city-named cocktail that combines sweet vermouth, luxe cherries, orange bitters, and Basil Hayden's spicy bourbon. Admirers of the AMC series will be able to call themselves true enthusiasts after sipping this drink—Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner recently hailed Basil Hayden's as his favorite bourbon and noted that it is often on-hand in the writer's room.

Planet Dailies & Mixology101 Open with Star-Studded Bash
Planet Hollywood's Robert Earl brings lounge and restaurant to LA's Original Farmers Market.
April 12, 2012
Planet Hollywood founder Robert Earl has brought his latest market restaurant and cocktail lounge concept to LA. Located on the second floor of The Original Farmers Market, the new Planet Dailies restaurant and Mixology101 lounge are separated by a roomy outdoor patio with stunning views overlooking the famed Grove shopping center. Décor is a sleek, minimalist interior with light wood accents, and the restaurant boasts fresh American food with a California twist, from classic appetizers (Caprese sliders, and crab and lobster cakes) to hearty entrees (pizzas like ham and fig, and roasted eggplant and spinach).
While the food alone is reason enough to stop by, it’s Mixology101’s elaborate cocktail menu that really draws attention. Salvatore Calabrese, better known as “The Maestro,” brings his famous creations to LA courtesy of his London-based Playboy Club. Signature drinks like the Breakfast Martini, crafted with Bombay Sapphire, Cointreau, fresh lemon juice, and orange marmalade, and the Spicy Fifty, comprised of Stolichnaya Vanilla vodka, elderflower cordial, fresh lime juice, honey syrup, and chili pepper, will be served up on-site by LA-based bartender Joseph Brooks.
Jennifer Lopez and boyfriend Casper Smart, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Piers Morgan, and Tommy Hilfiger were among the celebrities joining Earl for the grand-opening celebration. While sipping cocktails and sampling signature dishes, guests enjoyed another special treat—a preview of Lopez’s new music video for “Dance Again.” 6333 W. 3rd St., Ste. O20, LA, 323-370-6560
