Revisit the Classics at Arcana: Books on the Arts

Legendary rare bookstore begins a new chapter in Culver City’s Helms Bakery District.

June 18, 2012

After over 20 years as a fixture on Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade, iconic bookstore Arcana relocates to the historic Helms Bakery District in Culver City. What started as a mom-and-pop shop founded by husband and wife Lee and Whitney Kaplan, is now an expansive sanctuary for more than 100,000 rare and out-of-print publications.

Reminiscent of an art gallery, the store displays tomes related to art, architecture, design, and photography with care. The modern, industrial-style space comes courtesy of LA-based Johnston Marklee architects Sharon Johnston and Mark Lee, and includes an open, sunny space with rows of wood and metal bookshelves. 8675 W. Washington Blvd., Culver City, 310-458-1499
