Brunch Plans: Laurel Hardware

Hardware store retooled as a restaurant now offering brunch service.

September 21, 2012

A converted hardware store might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you’re picking a place to brunch, but then again, you’ve probably never been to Laurel Hardware. After its July opening, the hip West Hollywood spot has recently launched its brunch service, and if corn flour pancakes with bourbon maple, orange zest, and saffron syrup aren’t enough reason to check it out, their Bloody Mary with house-pickled Chinese long beans, a citrus chili salt rim, and Turkish pepper-stuffed olives, is sure to be love at first sip.

With aged wood everywhere, aluminum siding, and floral wallpaper, Laurel’s cosmopolitan vibe keeps the atmosphere consistently lively. But walls of windows in both rooms, scattered greenery, and an expansive back garden (with limited food service), keep the space bright enough so you don’t feel guilty for drinking at noon.

The menu is divided among shared plates, sweets, three-egg scrambles, and an “others” section—where some of the most interesting items reside. Try the prosciutto served with broccolini, burrata, and a poached egg for an Italian breakfast, or the fried chicken biscuit with pancetta gravy and a jidori egg for something a little more comforting. Complement your meal with a carafe of your choice of Champagne drinks, from the standard mimosa to ginger peach or elderflower-flavored ones. Brunch is served Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM-4 PM. 7984 Santa Monica Blvd. West Hollywood, 323-656-6070
